Description

SICSSL will host a five-day Introductory Chinese Language Workshop from 1–5 September, designed to provide participants with a strong foundation in Mandarin Chinese. Taught entirely by native speakers, the workshop offers an authentic and immersive learning experience. It begins with an introduction to the language’s structure and phonetics, including the combination of initial and final sounds and the five tones, supported by live demonstrations to enhance pronunciation. Participants will learn basic greetings, self-introduction phrases, and how to express personal likes and dislikes, especially around topics like sports and movies. The sessions also include simple dialogues and pronunciation reviews to reinforce fluency. Learners will explore varied question forms, measure words, and possessive constructions in everyday sentences. Time-related expressions will be introduced, enabling participants to ask and tell time, describe activities occurring at specific moments, and express actions over durations. Through interactive exercises, attendees will gain essential conversational skills and a deeper appreciation of Chinese language and culture.
