In the recent decades, it has been observed that conventional approach to tackle the menace of terrorism, particularly for the regions having diverse ethnicity proves inadequate. The threat posed by self-radicalization, lone wolf attacks and newly emerging terrorist groups, as well as the potential of the Internet to be utilized by recruiters and to promote violent extremist ideologies have prompted greater focus on prevention and on countering radicalization.
This evolving terrorist threats draws attention to national and international security. The development of new terrorist modus operandi and emergence of internal security challenges like radicalization and communal conflict, requires constant knowledge upgradation, awareness, adaptability and efforts from practitioner, professionals, academicians, scholars and other sections of the society to strengthen awareness and capacities to prevent and counter such phenomena.
In the light of this backdrop, The School of Criminal Law and Military Law (SCLML) initiates to offer Foundation Course on Counter Radicalization to understand the various dynamics and dimensions of the most complex problem of Radicalization. The objective of this course is to make participants familiarize with various aspects of Radicalization. The course aims at understanding the process of radicalization, de-radicalization and measures through criminal justice strategies as well as policies and tools to prevent and counter radicalization and violent extremism related phenomenon. The course will also highlight good practices and relevant policy and programming options for tackling this menace.

Coordinator, Counter Terrorism Centre Manohar Parrikar Institute for Defence Studies & Analyses (MP-IDSA)
Dr. Adil Rasheed joined MP-IDSA as Research Fellow in August 2016. Before that, he was researcher and political commentator in various international think tanks and media organizations for over 17 years, both in the United Arab Emirates and India. Dr. Rasheed is the author of the books: Political Islam in West Asia and South Asia (2023), Countering the Radical Narrative (2020), and ISIS: Race to Armageddon (2015).
